Sanjay Gandhi (14 December 19 - 23 June 1980) was a lawmaker from India. He was the more youthful child of Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India. Maneka Gandhi is his significant other and Varun Gandhi is his child. His job during the Emergency in India was questionable. He kicked the bucket in a helicopter crash at an early age.

Sanjay Gandhi was a popular politician despite controversies.  The seventh decade of the last century is considered a memorable decade in Indian politics.  During this decade a political leader had emerged on the political scene of India, who in his young age did the feat which no one could think of.  The name of this leader was Sanjay Gandhi.  Along with being the most ambitious leader of the Congress party, Sanjay Gandhi was also the undisclosed heir to the political legacy of the Nehru-Gandhi family.  It was believed that if he was alive, after Indira Gandhi, he would have taken over the reins of the same Congress and become the Prime Minister when the Congress was in power.  But at the tender age of 34, the country had to die with this young leader.

In the desire to do something different in politics and for the country, he took many such decisions from behind the scenes that the controversies led to his choli-like relationship.  Sanjay Gandhi, who created turmoil in Indian politics in the seventies, first wanted to become an automobile engineer, but he did not mind here.  Then he followed the footsteps of his elder brother Rajiv Gandhi and obtained the license of commercial pilot.  But even this work did not suit them.  The reality was that the goal of his life was something else and that was to achieve a high position in politics.  Although he could not reach the peak of that stage due to his departure from the world at a young age, but remained engulfed in controversies as long as possible.  On the other hand, it is also true in relation to this strong personality that despite being surrounded in controversies, his popularity never diminished in the public opinion of the country.

Sanjay gandhi personal life

Like other aspects of life, Sanjay Gandhi's married life was also becoming a topic of discussion at that time. He married a 17-year-old Sikh family girl Maneka, ten years younger than her age. It is said that Sanjay had done this marriage despite not wanting Maneka's family. Maneka wanted to become a model. He also got a break for modeling and that too for an advertisement of the then famous brand Bombay Dyeing. In this advertisement, Sanjay saw Maneka and gave her his heart. Later Sanjay met Maneka by Veenu Kapoor, who was a relative of Maneka. In the year 1973, both met at Vinu's wedding party. After this, both of them got married and both got engaged the next year. Then on 23 September 1974, they got married. In this connection, it is also said that after marriage, part of Maneka Gandhi was removed from the advertisement of Bombay Dyeing, due to which Sanjay Gandhi's objection was made. After marriage, Sanjay and Maneka Gandhi emerged as a powerful couple on the political scene of the country. Maneka used to go with Sanjay in every tour, be it political or non-political. Going forward, Maneka started taking interest in politics as well and to strengthen the Congress party with Sanjay, he started publishing a monthly magazine called 'Surya'.

Sanjay Gandhi death

Sanjay Gandhi was fond of flying airplanes.  On 23 June 1980, he was flying a new ship of the Delhi Flying Club at Safdarjung Airport in Delhi.  They lost control while crashing the ship into the air and the ship crashed.  In this accident, he succumbed to premature death.  Three months before Sanjay's death, Maneka gave birth to a child, whom he named Varun Gandhi.  After Sanjay's death, a period of disputes started between Indira and Maneka in the Gandhi family.  In 1981, Maneka finally separated from the Gandhi family with her son Varun forever.  Today, both mother and son are in politics and are MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

It would not be wrong to say that in the history of independent India, Sanjay Gandhi was a politician who was ambitious, he was also a visionary.  If the schemes he gave to the country were implemented in the manner, then the country could be rejuvenated.  Despite being a disputed personality, the curiosity to know about his biography and activities is still haunting the minds of us Indians.
